Hey, my name’s Sam and I’ve been working at Pace for the last 2 weeks on work experience.
I’ve just finished my first year at the University of Lincoln studying Business and Marketing, so working in an agency like Pace is something I could potentially end up doing!
I’m a Hull City fan (although at the moment I wish I wasn’t) and I love playing sport and keeping fit, as do most of the team apparently – I keep bumping into them down at the gym!
Why did you want to work at Pace?
I applied for a two-week work placement at Pace because I wanted to experience what working in an agency was like, as my course is predominantly theory-based and I wanted to put some of it into practice.
I was aware that Pace is a very exciting company that does things differently, and I couldn’t wait to start working with them.
What did you get up to?
During my 2 weeks at Pace I experienced every role at Pace, from creating and designing logos and adverts with the Design team, to writing articles and blogs for the Content team, to spending time around the Account Managers and seeing how they deal with their clients.
What’s working at Pace like?
One of the best things about working for Pace is the surrounding area. Humber Street is booming and being able to walk down the road through it is an enjoyable way to spend your lunch hour.
Working in such a close-knit team really helped me settle in and I saw how the other staff here work on projects together and support each other with them.
The team have been very accommodating with me right from the first day, giving me advice and tasks to do every day, and they’re also a great bunch!
I’ve learnt that building a good relationship with your clients is definitely key to success here. Not only does it make it easier for the Digital and Design teams to understand what the client wants, but it helps the client understand what we’re doing and ultimately what they’re paying for.
In my opinion, this is one of the reasons why Pace is such a great company.
Have you enjoyed your 2 weeks here?
I’ve loved my 2 weeks at Pace. Before I came here I had no idea what working at an agency would be like and the experience has opened my eyes to what I might want to do once I’ve graduated.
I’d like to thank everyone at Pace for having me, I’ve gained an invaluable insight into the working world and the marketing and communications industry, which I’ll take with me onto my next adventure!
