A Parsnip Christmas Carol

A festive campaign for a community farm

Christmas adverts have become as much a part of the holiday season as presents, decorations and Brussels sprouts. And when Aldi once again brought back their popular ‘Kevin the Carrot’ character, we spotted an opportunity to support a local farm with our own creative campaign.

Kevin is so popular, in fact, that there were queues of people wanting to get their hands on a cuddly toy of him and like all good heroes, he has a foe – evil parsnip Pascal introduced in the most recent series of ads.

That gave us the idea for an animation to show that actually, all veg is good, and we should be eating more of it every day – not just at Christmas.

We teamed-up with community project, Frith Farm, for the story which we loosely based on A Christmas Carol. Working on the idea was a lot of fun but there was also a serious message behind it  – to encourage more people to buy fresh food and start cooking.

We shared the video on social where it was quickly picked-up by the Veg Cities campaign and shared across its network of 14 UK-wide locations. It was also covered by the Hull Daily Mail and even gained an entry in the World Carrot Museum.

The number of video views is climbing and the animation has been described as ‘heart-warming’, ‘top work’ and ‘awesome’.

Taking on Aldi was a creative way to help get the not-for-profit organisation’s message across and we were delighted with the response. We are already looking forward to next Christmas to see what we can come up with then.

If you’re interested in PR projects like this too, then get in touch. This is just one example of how at Pace, PR is about much more than sending out a press release.
