A week in the life of a Junior Production Editor

Pre-production

Being a junior production editor means that no two weeks are ever the same.

If there’s a shoot coming up, my week revolves around pre-production - organising models, props and shot lists to ensure the day runs as smoothly as possible. Making the most of our time is important, so planning needs to be thorough - but it always pays off.

The more you prepare, the fewer hiccups on the day.

Shoot day - all hands on deck

Next comes shoot day, when all the prep work comes to life, and it’s all hands on deck. I love getting involved, always jumping in front of the camera for photography, video or presenting work. It’s a fun little side job that I'd like to get into more, and knowing exactly how the content needs to look makes it even better.

Post-production

After a long day of shooting, the editing process takes place, which is usually shared between myself and Tim, the other half of the Production team. Seeing the idea come to life is always so rewarding and shows that hard work pays off.

Business as usual

When there’s no shoot planned for the week, I focus on editing videos for Pace and our clients, which mainly consist of interviews, social media reels, and thinking of fresh, creative ideas.

I enjoy this part of my role because by the end, I’ve created content people want to watch and that’s always a great feeling of accomplishment.

Although I’m part of the Production team, I sit within the wider Studio team in the office, sharing the space with our designers. We all have a great laugh together - character building, as my colleague would say, if it’s me on the receiving end of the sarcasm...

When the full Studio and Production team is in, there are seven of us - which means if you volunteer for a coffee round, you’re making seven drinks. I’ve now mastered carrying six coffees in one trip without spilling a drop on the carpet.

Free Fridge Friday Four O’Clock Fun Drinks

Fridays are my favourite work days. With half the office working from home it’s quieter, but a perfect setting to power through tasks if you’re in the office like me. Fridays also come with a treat: our office drink fridge that’s full of different beverages.

I like to call it Free Fridge Friday Four O’Clock Fun Drinks (name still in progress). It’s like a mini reward for conquering the week, and sets the scene for the weekend.

My commute usually involves catching the early morning train. I typically end up running for it - not because I wake up late, but because I lose track of time. So far, I’ve never missed it - touch wood.

The 5-9 after the 9-5

On Thursdays, I drive to work so I can head straight to football training afterwards. Getting out in the fresh air after being inside all day feels good, especially when you’re doing a sport that you’re passionate about.

I’ve been playing in various football teams since I was around 10 years old and even got to the PlayStation Girls cup final in 2015 with my secondary school, playing at Madejski Stadium in Reading, London.

Football has always been a big part of my life and within my family. I come to work on a Monday morning with a new injury from playing the full 90 the day before - let me tell you these Hull leagues are rough!

After sharing multiple stories with the Studio team of how I gained my injuries, it’s always followed by the part everyone really wants to hear - how I scored the winning goal. Classic left-footed winger magic!

Lunchtimes are my little retail therapy sessions, usually spent wandering around shops like TK Maxx. I have a soft spot for candles - smelling them, buying them and burning them.

My weekday evenings vary. Especially in the summer, when it's lighter for longer and the sun's still shining bright, I can be found either on a nice walk or sitting in a beer garden. Until then, I enjoy cinema trips - recent standouts: Gladiator 2 and We Live in Time - very different but both excellent.

Winter evenings are also prime time for working on my side hobby, Hearts of Cards (find me on Instagram!), for which I paint personalised occasion cards for friends and family while watching The Traitors or a Man United game.

Fridays often mean a takeaway or going out for food because the weekend has officially started.

So, that’s a glimpse into my work life - a mix of planning, creativity and a bit of organised chaos, all with plenty of smiles along the way.

Now, time for some chocolate.
